Close the day, then close the week
Closing the day takes about 3 minutes in the Goals & Progress Life Goals App. The weekly reflection takes about 10 minutes, and you use it to set up the week that follows.
Where you are in the journey
You have a plan for this week and for today, from “Plan your week and your day with the Life Goals App”. Now you close them. The article after this one, “Start a habit, mark it and change it later in the Life Goals App”, covers the habit rows you tick here.
What you will learn
- Close the day with four things: tasks, habits, dials, one written line.
- Close the week and pick one of three options for the week after it.
- Read the streak and the consistency percent without guessing.
- Skip a reflection and see what it costs you.
How to close your day
- On the phone, open Home and tap Reflect on today.
- On the computer, open Execute, pick the day in the row of periods, then tap the Review tab.
- Tick each task you finished. On one you did not, tap Carry on the phone or Carry to tomorrow on the computer.
- Tick the habits you did. Tap a habit twice for a Lazy day, the smallest version that counts.
- Set the Energy dial, from drained to buzzing. In Full Mode you also set Stress and Mood.
- Tick I brought Discipline into today if you did. Your five values take turns here.
- Write One line about today. Fill in One thing I learned today when you have one.
- Tap Close the day.
On the phone you find the three dials and the value line on one screen.

Your line can be small and unfinished. Maya, the person in the example plan, wrote: “I wrote the capstone email but did not send it. I will send it tomorrow.”
On the computer the row of periods shows the day as the weekday and the date, such as Fri 19. The Review tab there opens once you tap Set today’s plan. On the phone the last step shows the day in numbers.

If you need words in the evening, our journal prompts follow the same short day and longer week.
On a busy evening, tick the habits and tap Close the day. The dials and both text fields can stay empty, and nothing counts that against you.
How to close your week
- On the phone, open Execute, go to the week and tap the Review tab.
- On the computer, open Execute, pick the week in the row of periods, then tap the Review tab.
- Tick what you finished under Main focus this week and Deliverables this week.
- On anything still open, tap Carry on the phone or Carry to next week on the computer. It shows in next week’s plan.
- Mark any milestone that is due or late On track, At risk or Off track.
- Read Check your habit consistency this week, one row per habit with a percent.
- Rate the week from 1 to 5 stars, then set Energy, Focus and Momentum.
- Write One win this week and Key learnings.
- Pick one of the three options for next week, then tap Close the week.
On the computer you work down both cards on the Review tab.

The Review tab opens once you lock the week’s plan, or once the week ends. On the computer the row of periods shows the week as W plus its number, such as W38. Set Reflection depth to Long in Settings, Cadence, and the week adds two more fields: What worked and Biggest challenges.
Maya ticked all three deliverables last week. Her learning was one sentence: “Move the staffing review to Wed so Tue evenings stay protected.”
You record what happened, compare it with the plan and correct one thing. The app’s own recipe page for this task adds the break switch, for a week you plan to skip.
What do you do with next week?
Three options end the weekly reflection: Keep going, Reduce the plan and Change direction. Tap the one that fits, or tap it again to clear it. Your pick shows once, as a line on next week’s plan that starts with Last week you chose.
You find the three of them at the foot of the weekly reflection.

Answering is optional. Maya left all three options blank, so her closed week shows no pick. Her next week still starts with one line: “Capstone outline to v2. Add the 4th run day this week.”
A week with two late nights at work and one run out of four is a Reduce the plan week. Cutting the plan early beats missing it all week. The Goals and Progress method is the longer story behind both reflections.
When does a reflection show up?
Yesterday’s reflection shows as a chip for one day. Last week’s shows for three days after the week ends. During that time you find it on Home and at the foot of every screen, and one tap opens it.
After the window, no prompt comes back. The form stays open on its own screen, so you can close a Tuesday three weeks later. A missed day fades instead of counting against you.
The app’s rhythm page sets out all five cycles, from the day to the year.
What a missed day costs you
A missed day costs you almost nothing. A day you never closed moves into Open reviews. You open it there when you want it, or you tap Let it go. The series article “Pick up your plan after a gap with the Life Goals App” covers a missed week and a missed month.
What the streak and the consistency percent mean
A streak counts the days in a row with a mark on that habit. A Done mark and a Lazy day mark both keep it going. Only a day with no mark at all ends it.
Say you run on Monday, mark Tuesday a Lazy day and forget Wednesday. Tuesday keeps the count going. Wednesday ends it. Your new run then starts at 1, and your longest streak does not change.
The percent next to each habit in the weekly reflection is a different number. It counts a lazy day as half a day, while the Habits tab counts it as kept.

A word comes with the number: Rock solid at 90 percent and up, Steady from 60 to 74, Building from 40 to 59. Four days done and one Lazy day in a week give you 64 percent, or Steady. The two-day rule is the fix when it drops: never miss twice.
What a closed week puts on your Wall of Wins
The sentence you write under One win this week becomes a card on your Wall of Wins, with the week number and its dates. Maya’s card is one sentence: “First long run that actually felt easy.”

Marking a milestone Achieved during the weekly reflection opens a poster with confetti. Habit badges such as the comeback badge show up on the same wall.
When you close the last open week of a month, a small message offers the month check-in. You can take it then or leave it for the weekend.
Try these tips and tricks
- The weekly reflection is one page on the computer and one step at a time on the phone.
- Write the win sentence before the learnings. It is the easier one, and it earns a card.
- The weekly Energy dial opens on the average of the days you answered. Leave it there when it fits.
- Turn off the value tick in Settings, Appearance, Daily value line if it feels like homework.
- Reopen a closed day with Reopen the day, and a closed week with Reopen the week. Nothing you wrote goes away.
Key takeaways
- The daily reflection has four parts: tasks, habits, dials, one line.
- The weekly reflection ends with one question: what to do with next week.
- A Lazy day keeps a streak alive. An empty day ends it.
- Reflections show for one day and three days, then go quiet. Nothing nags you afterwards.
Close today before you close this page
Open Home, tap Reflect on today and write one line about the day you are having. One line tonight gives you something to read on Sunday, when you plan the week that follows.
